KryKey Web Radio #IPhone #app – Review

KryKey IPhone App

Technology is shrinking. We are moving into areas through mobile technology that would have been unenvisaged 20 years ago. Devices bring us together on the move and we share photos, music, film, like never before. The disruptive web radio technology, that is #KryKey, now brings web radio to your pocket, with the release of its eagerly anticipated mobile app. Having just purchased a new #IPhone, I decided to surf over to the Apple App Store and test out what KryKey’s app brings to the table. It’s nice and easy to get hold of this FREE app from the Apple App store… Just a quick search of ‘KryKey’ will list the Premium app for free download and installation time is fast. The app is pretty much streamlined and for the data it handles, works very efficiently. The app builds on the successful web-based platform of http://KryKey.com and brings web radio to your fingertips. The first noticeable thing about the KryKey app is the design. It is structured to look like a traditional radio, with easy to use dials, all app-subscribing radio stations being allocated their own digital frequency, with plenty of space available at present to allow for company growth. Obviously, listeners and app users will remember the frequencies of their favourite KryKey radio stations and be able to simply whirl the dial to quickly tap between shows, in the same manner in which one used to flick through a car radio. There’s an initial sign up to the app which requires a simple email address and some locational information, to tailor the app to your needs. This is non-essential though and the app will function anonymously, if required. You have the pre-mentioned dial, for simplicity, though for the first few uses of app, it might be more advisable to use the search features to get to know the network a bit better. The preset dials can be customised for easy browsing, like any standard, traditional radio. The search features allow radio stations to be navigated by various subdivisions: Music genre, Radio Name, City or wider, by country. The app is only available for broadcast for KryKey Premium stations, that pay the $30 or so monthly fee for the new service. KryKey used to have over 60000 personal radio stations and since the streamlining of the business, ahead of app release, most of the dross has been culled and only the…

Wide-Eyed Wild

Wide-Eyed Wild

I’ve gone back to my (progressive) house roots for this mix… Dug deep by analysing what Sasha & Digweed have been laying recently and adding my own bit of spice to the track selection. From the early mix tapes, through to Renaissance and Northern Exposure, Sasha & Digweed have been luminary artists in the dance music scene and I always draw inspiration from the way they maintain themselves at the cutting edge of the evolution of Electronica… In this mix, you’ll hear deep bassy sounds with plenty of melody and the odd vocal… Lose yourselves in the Wide-Eyed Wild with Wez G! :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. Head Alchemy

Head Alchemy

I felt like a bit of a change, a bit of an up-tempo feel to the mix to warm those toes in the murky winter weather… I’d recently put together a nice acid house feeling dub for a Brazilian vocalist to work on and wanted to fit it into the mix… It is Hacienda style Acid House… This mix flows from Acid House to techno and back down to Acid… I wanted to bang it up to full-on Adam Beyer style techno and add in some Goa Trance but unfortunately couldn’t get the tempo geared up that high in 80 minutes… Some nice Laurent Garnier tracks thrown in and he has been a big influence on me as a DJ – I’ve never seen anyone at all demonstrate crowd control on a dancefloor like he does… He’s like an operatic conductor and his versatility and range of music in his sets is astonishing… I started off in the scene listening to a lot of techno and playing it so I guess this mix is taking me back full circle… :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. Blast From The Past: The Sandwich Show featuring Wez G

Here is a rare bit of video footage of DJ Wez G in action (back in 2010)… Filmed for the legendary (now defunct) Cardiff radio programme, The Sandwich Show, DJ Wez G lays down some grooves in the company of crazy hosts, Flapsandwich (http://sicknote.tv) and Ninjah… The show’s theme is mental health. ‘Nuthouse’ features a crazy journey to the house of Paul and Al (RIP) where the event took place, after the regular Sandwich Show studio was unavailable… Hannibal the Cannibal masks and mink scarves were the order of the day and Ninjah’s journey to the off license to stock up on beers was a journey itself! I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and long after the broadcast finished we continued to party the night away… I hope you enjoy the video!

Remote Desert Runway

Remote Desert Runway

Lost in the sky, traversing the globe, a record box in the baggage hold high above you; an air steward whinges about the weight of your records and forces you to shift your hand luggage to a safer place. While you’re getting a ticking off from some jumped up trolley dolly the moved weight of a damn heavy UDG bag tilts the plane and the pilot comes running down the aisle and gives the jumped up service shark a good telling off, as by shifting the DJ’s luggage, he has tilted the plane off course…. All we can hope for now is an emergency landing patch to develop…. deep in the desert the pilot spots a Remote Desert Runway and all are safe and sound as the plane touches down back onto Mother Earth. Great People, Great Parties, and Great Poker

What Happens in Vegas… …great people, great parties, and great poker Las Vegas, the Entertainment Capital of the World, Capital of Second Chances…just hearing the name brings memories of bright lights and fun nights. In Lonely Planet Las Vegas, Scott Doggett chanced upon the best and most accurate description of the city: “Las Vegas exists chiefly to satisfy the needs and desires of its visitors, and it does in spectacular fashion. Sin City has taken or re-created the best that other great cities have to offer and then upped the ante — making it bigger, grander, flashier.” Truly, there’s something for everyone in Vegas. The EDM fan will find himself lost in this city of hearty music , not knowing where to go first. Vegas.com has a list of the best nightclubs in the city, but if you really want to experience Vegas to the fullest, you need to experience why Vegas is called the Gambling Capital of the World. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the Las Vegas strip’s gaming revenue last year was $6.2 billion. There were 21,615 different conventions held in the city in 2012, but something else attracts millions of people to the city. Vegas is the home of the World Series of Poker, the most prestigious poker tournament in the world. Every year, thousands of poker players gather in hopes of bringing home a bracelet and winning big money as they compete with other professional poker players. The main event of the WSOP will be held in Vegas in mid-November. This much-awaited event is attended by people from all walks of life. Last year, Betfair player Elisbeth Hille, then a waitress from Norway, made history by becoming one of two women to reach the final two tables since 2000. But there’s more to the Vegas poker scene than the WSOP. The Grand Poker Series is also held in the Sin City during the summer season and it hosts more than 300 poker events that were joined by players from all over the globe. Binion’s Poker Classic, now on its seventh year, is another tournament that sees 47 events running from May to July. No matter what time of the year you decide to fly to Vegas, there will be something to satisfy your EDM and poker needs. Over the years, Vegas has become the premier destination for a luxurious vacation, dancing, and gambling. There’s…

Holiday Romance

We’ve all been there, cosied up with a nice partner on a holiday of a lifetime, be it a beach, a nice foreign city, or just camping in the forest, a holiday romance is always memorable. I was having a dig on Beatport for some of the finest of this summer’s chillout beats for this mix and as I spun the tunes, I felt they had a soft romantic love theme predominant… I managed to include one of the productions from my new Megman Vs Wez G project which I hope you enjoy. There’s some nice numbers here and the mix builds from around 90bpm up to some housier 120bpm at the finale. Hopefully the set will give you fond memories of your Holiday Romance. :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. Mojo Rising – On The Horizon (Original Mix) [Cold Busted] 2. Punky Funky

Electronic dance music enthusiasts are the modern day punks. Electronic music represents youth culture and the stuff top DJs hammer out in wild night clubs to glammed up audiences is about as punky as it’s gotten since the seventies. Phoenix Rising

The phoenix is a mythical sacred fire bird. It is described as a bird with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet (or purple, blue, and green according to some legends). It has also been described as looking like a giant, firey peacock. It has a 500 to 1000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self. In some stories, the new phoenix embalms the ashes of its old self in an egg made of myrrh and deposits it in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis (literally “sun-city” in Greek). I feel, with this the biggest break in the podcast, like a phoenix rising from the flames… I’ve been away locked in mental hospitals for the past few months and it hasn’t been fun…. just been keen to get back and get on top of my music…. This mix is a bit rusty but a nice start back with lots of fresh vocals and some flaming hot tunes. 1. My Favorite Robot – The Liability Within (Original Mix) [Last Night On Earth] 2. There’s been a bit of a delay in getting this latest mix together as I’ve been busy enhancing the Wez G studio, spending over £4000 on it in the past month… I’ve been learning how to use all the new gadgets and this has sidetracked me from doing DJ mixes… Anyway, back with a bang and this funky mix spans from nice modern disco funk beats through to heavy hitting techno, not forgetting the awesome Justine – Be Sexy from 1992 which I burned from vinyl… I’m hoping my new kit will produce some future bangers for your aural pleasure and I’ll be hard at work, creating… Meanwhile, sink your teeth into ‘Sexy Disco Machines’. 1. Well – It’s been a busy week… My new Native Instruments Maschine turned up and I’ve been busy learning that – the aim is to develop my digital DJing to incorporate Maschine eventually and it should certainly revolutionise the Wez G production methods also… Apart from that I’ve been busy researching on ancestry dot com and managed to trace my lineage back to James I of Scotland… It’s an amazing and addictive fun site – well worth a go… Back on Beatport and all the decent tracks were hiding away in the Indie Dance / Nudisco section. My style seems to migrate departments there all the time. We have a variety of funky disco numbers, a shift away from the progginess of the last Alien Abduction mix. I now proudly present to you: Forefathers Of Funk – Enjoy! 1. Leo Perez – Colors (Original Mix) [Half Seas Over] 2. Honom – Sebastians Birthday (Original Mix) [Toolroom Records] 3. Alien Abduction

A few years ago I underwent an Ayahuasca session and was induced into the world of shamanism. It was great except for the plant taking complete control of your body and mind proved a bit daunting around six months later when I had a flashback from my experience and trekked up into the local woods where I had an alien abduction experience. I was surrounding by probing Chinese Red Army soldiers inspecting my body and faced an attack of flying red dragons. I eventually returned intact from the forest, leaving a trail of floating light beings in my wake. As far as alien abudctions go I think that sometimes in today’s music technology world, surrounded by weird bits of kit and flashing lights, the modern DJ is essentially flying a spaceship through the boundaries of the dimensions. I hope that this little mix will trancendentally induce you into the weird and wacky world of Wez G and that you yourselves might experience an enlightening moment or two upon your travels. You can read more about the alien abduction experience at http://djwezg.com/chinese-military-and-alien-abduction-235 :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. What I Am

Music is a great tool for expression. The music artist takes you on a journey,a rollercoaster ride of feelings and emotion. Descartes said ‘Cogito Ergo Sum’ – ‘I think, therefore I am’. The musician thinks and then performs and his work, that all can hear, his art, becomes one with the audience. a Transferrance of energy occurs and the form of the art manifests itself in the feelings of those that listen. :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. Circles

Back in my (younger) clubbing days I can remember watching a drug awareness video. They put a load of rats in a box, gave some of them speed which caused them to run around crazily hyperactive. The ones they gave ecstasy also sped up, but ran around the box edges in nice neat continuous circles. The E’d up Rats were following one of the most basic of symmetrical desires. This mix has a nice circular flow to the beats. I’m not equating my audience with rodents, far from it. Enjoy the full force of dance music as its supposed to feel, just remember not to touch any cheese or you might get electroshocked! :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. Ghost In The Bed

Mixing this haunted house made me think of a ghost under the covers with me. Twisted tech with minimal vocals, the mix builds to a crescendo with an old reworked classic, Jaydee – Plastic Dreams, which was one of my Shuffle DJ partner (Damo)’s signature tunes back in the day when we rocked the best of the country’s dancefloors from the tip to the toe of the Uk. :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. Jack Attack

Jacking your body has always been a part of house music and this mix has a few ‘Jack’ references. My own interpretation of the required picture and actual mix name comes from one of my greatest Christmas presents back in the day. Jack Attack was the essential game for the Commodore 64 and as little red Jack you could hop about platforms and squash baddies. What it has to do with house-jacking God only knows… The mix flows about with some nice upfront deep techy tunes, cut up rather rustily due to my break from the decks in recent months, but culminating nicely in some lush hammered-out Inner City Vocals. Enjoy! And have a Merry Christmas! 1. Maceo Plex – Bring It Back (Original Mix) [Crosstown Rebels] 2. Balcazar & Sordo – Black Panties [Dirt Crew Recordings] 3. Joe Goddard – Gabriel feat. Valentina (Original Mix) [Greco-Roman] 4. Jet Project, Electric J – Alright (Homework Remix) [Snatch! Records] 5. Little Disco Biscuit

The best time for dance music in my opinion was the early 1990s. It was the heyday of the Rave Scene and dancefloors were packed with sky high dancing bods. The reason I like this period is not that the floors were filled with ecstasy takers, but that the music was at its peak. Dubby loops of bass and funk with a constant circular rhythm in the tents and clubs drove the E’d up crowd into a frenzy. The beats suited the experience of everyone – It was total unity and I think that over the years as the government has killed off the scene with various parliamentary acts (eg Criminal Justice Act 1994) and the total media frenzied attack on ecstasy, claiming it killed you, and the general shift towards commercialism and business, moved the music towards a different direction. Of course, post 1997 – even the dealers were selling ketamine and calling it ecstasy…It’s as if the disco biscuits disappeared overnight. I think on the music front the DJs forgot the buzz which caused the whole vibe and we saw a scattering of genres and pigeonholing and musical snobbery… Well – a couple of decades on from that and digging about on Beatport, I noticed a trend back towards the old style music. Loops of bass hooks and that driving groove have reappeared. It’s that old Italian sound which is so inspiring. Now most of it seems to be categorised as techno or deep house… but it seems the same old stuff that DJs from Laurent Garnier to Easygroove, from Carl Cox to Sasha, all used to bang out. In this mix I’ve cut up a few old tracks with the new flavours plus slipped in a special edit from a live Universe Rave that took place only a few miles away from me in Magor in South Wales in the summer of 1992… In the news recently there have been claims that Ecstasy cures cancer 100% guaranteed so maybe the pop idol generation will be ditching X-Factor, slipping on their shiny shirts and getting back to a diet of disco biscuits… Who knows? As long as good music thrives and Simon Cowell goes bankrupt I don’t mind one little bit. :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. Vangelis – Blush Response [East West] 2. Joe T Vannelli – Prelude (Scalambrin & Sicily Island Style Remix) [Le Bien Et Le Mal Recordings] 3….
