Tricia Lee Kelshall leaves Shuffle Artist Management

Since December 2007 I have managed the career of leading dance music vocalist Tricia Lee Kelshall http://tricialeekelshall.com She had a big hit in 2002 with Way Out West – Mindcircus and had previous high profile work with other bands prior to that. After a few years away from music, I was charged with the task of managing Tricia and relaunching her career. I relished the task completely and since December 2007 Tricia has worked on / released singles with many high profile industry names. there are some more forthcoming projects, some never to be released projects. Artists we have worked with include Victor Imbres, Urban Astronauts (Matt Darey), Adam Sheridan, Marc Vedo, Trafik, Randall Jones, Alonestar, Jerome Isma-Ae, Steve Andrews (Pentaprism), Mike Duz & John Steele, Cosmoz, Matt Black (Segment Records), Nick Murray, Matan Caspi plus possibly a few more as loose ends are tied. There have been several major label releases plus some forthcoming. It has been a very pleasurable experience working with Tricia and as our time together draws to a close on behalf of myself and the remaining artists at SAM we wish her all the best for her future endeavours.

Last.fm

#

Last.fm I’m going to have a whinge here about the general lack of support the dance music industry seems to give this amazing site… Last.fm has been around for quite a few years… It is the most amazing site for people who listen to music and also for artists. We’ve witnessed the rise of Spotify, Soundcloud, Reverbnation, Podomatic, Mixcloud, Play.fm and many other music sites in recent years. Last.fm has been ticking along all the time while this has been going on.  It is the most amazing site for discovering new music. It has an excellent tagging system and when you download the scrobbler which supports a lot of players, you can keep a record of your own listening history.  It keeps stats and wiki info on artists that you simply won’t get anywhere else. It is fully interactive with a social network dimension where you meet genuine friends based on music tastes. There is a journal system and groups. It is an amazing site for artists which, even if you don’t scrobble particularly well – with decent journals and links you will ping around search engines across the world.  As a music listener and artist’s resource it is second to none. It is mainly free though you can subscribe to some additional features for a nominal monthly sum. It is also app friendly with its own radio app. The radio feature is the highlight and I’ll leave that to non-users as a surprise – but this is where you discover the site’s database’s true power and make new music discoveries. I fully endorse last.fm and I just cannot comprehend why more people don’t use it. (The above link is to my user account which you get yourself on signup )

With the app being launched yesterday I thought I’d shed some light on why this 4 part ‘Desperate Houseflies’ documentary is included in the video section. Well – I’m jointpop’s manager. They are part of the http://shuffleartistmanagement.com project. It’s not all house music with Wez G and jointpop and I sort of fell into each other’s hands. I dig a bit of Rock n Roll with The Doors being my favourite alltime band… Anyway – jointpop is all about Rock, Trini style… There is something magical about this band…. Just check out their stuff – support them – get some albums on itunes or amazon, whatever….   This 4 part video is well worth watching if you are into music of any genre… Just watch it… The Caribbean atmosphere, the adventure of recording an album… the Rock n Roll feeling encapsulated by the band interacting on their sonic journey… This video shows why I want to be involved with jointpop. They are dedicated to music, their cause. They have a passion about music that only serious artists truly understand.  Watch and Enjoy! (Source: http://www.youtube.com/)

Spooky Rhythm

Haunted House? Well – for want of a better title – I thought there was some spooky theme going on in the track titles for this deep and funky mix which explores some of the finer elements of 2011 deep house, building to a crescendo with a classic remake of Superchumbo’s Revolution, concluding with one of the finer tracks from Guy J’s new 1000 words album. Don’t miss out on my old Swedish matey Nibc’s nice remix on his own label, Trunkfunk, one to watch out for as it booms out sounds from Berlin. Get with the Spooky Rhythm… :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. Pacific! – Unspoken feat. El Perro Del Mar (Alex Gopher & Pierrick Devin Remix) [Vulture] 2. Todd Terje – Snooze 4 Love (Original Mix) [Running Back] 3. Tony Lionni – Lost Souls (Original Mix) [Madhouse Records] 4. Chicken Lips, The Rhythm Odyssey – Move Groove (Rudy’s Midnight Machine Dub Mix) [Lipservice] 5. Alf Tumble – Story Of A Ghost feat. Halina Larsson (Deep Dub) [Centric Music] 6. Mathias Mesteno – Swan (Original Mix) [Suara] 7. Angel Moraes, Paolo Mojo – Welcome To The Factory (Original Mix) [Stereo Productions] 8. Sasse – On My Mind (Mano Le Tough Remix) [Moodmusic Records] 9. Uniforms – March Of No Coincidence feat. Maria Nordstrum (DJ Nibc Remix) [Trunkfunk] 10. Efdemin – There Will Be Singing (DJ Koze Remix) [Dial Records] 11. Roy Mclaren – The Realms Of Music (Original Mix) [Nocturnal Groove Digital] 12. Wez G DJ Tips – Number 1 – TIMING I have been DJing in clubs since 1995 and have a wealth of experience. Shuffle have taught DJing professionally with the Shuffle DJ Academy…  As part of this tumblr microblog I want to share some professional DJ Tips… So here we go… Number 1: TIMING A lot of people don’t realise just how essential timing is to DJing. Timing may confuse a few… Timing doesn’t refer to beatmatching the pitch of two records. I’ll deal with that separately. Timing refers in this to ‘cue points’ and when to ‘drop a record’. I say ‘record’ – It could refer to CD or digital – the same applies to whatever your preferred format is. A good DJ needs to have a feel for music, for the right time to make that transition between two tunes. It is the absolute art of DJing, blending or mixing music to give continuity to the dancefloor or home listener. A key point for this transition is when to begin it and when to end it. This is what timing refers to. You’ve seen vinyl DJs moving the record back and forth on the cue point (usually starting beat) and then proceeding to drop the record. This isn’t for show. For every pair of well-selected records there are only a few places where a good transition is possible and normally there is but one unique ‘sweet spot’ a precise moment in time, a microsecond in the duration of the set, where the mix will be perfect. this is what I mean by timing and how essential it is.    It does help if the beats and tempo are matching up – synched for a better word… But believe it or not this isn’t as fundamentally important as timing. Without tempo synchronisation the mix will drift and you may end up with that horrid train wreck effect but the mix will sound right to a certain extent. A well-timed mix with poor beatmatching is actually sonically preferable to a poorly timed mix with synched beats. How do I choose the ‘sweet spot’? Well technically there is no absolute science to this and it is perhaps one of the biggest parts of ‘fun’ for a DJ when he is in the mix… Have I hit the mix properly? Is it going to sound great? You need to have a basic…

Thanks to Fanbass – and Graeme Park for providing the inspiration

The Wez G iphone / ipod touch app launches next week and I’m getting excited… As a DJ you want your music to be heard and entering the app market will bring my music to a whole new audience as well as keeping current fans entertained… I’ve been looking at getting an app developed for a while… As an iphone user myself I am constantly downloading house music apps… I was particularly drawn to Graeme Park‘s app which was the first DJ app I got hold of… Graeme Park is a Hacienda legend and has been on the global house scene from day 1 (in Britain at least). He is a true acid house pioneer and whereas a lot of his contemporaries have waned  in the digital age, through failing to adapt to new technologies, Graeme keeps building his following and getting his music heard… He is no acid house dinosaur and long may his reign at the top continue. Anyway – just wanted to say that Graeme’s app inspired me to contact his developer, a certain Laurie Laptop, an old-skool Hacienda guy… Laurie built my app with no hassle at all – and Wez G will be going into the Fanbass DJ app catalogue alongside such electronica greats as Derrick May, Mark Archer (Altern-8 etc) and Graeme Park… For non-iphone / ipod touch users, hopefully an android version of the Wez G app will be soon added. In the meantime, and if you are interested in an app yourself, check out http://fanbass.co.uk I’ll keep you posted on the much anticipated launch of the Wez G app and you will hear here the moment it goes live in the Apple store…
