Reelhouse Records

reelhouse

I’ve been in discussions the past 48 hours with CN Williams, head of Swansea-based electronic music label, Reelhouse Records. Clifford has kindly agreed to sign several forthcoming Wez G releases… I had a busy week last week, with several tracks having the finishing touches applied to them in the mastering studio. It is pleasing to be able to announce that the debut EP of my Megman vs Wez G project is all ready to go. Boom Beat Zoo EP will demonstrate the exciting fusion of live guitars with electronica. Megman Merrett, a talented Caldicot musician with much experience, has been hammering out hits in the studio with me for a couple of years now… Boom Beat Zoo EP, so called because of the animal association with most of its tracks, is an exciting debut EP, which will hopefully start to generate us a fanbase and assist us in funding further Megman vs Wez G EPs and hopefully a studio album…. The aim is, that once we have finally discovered our true sound, that we take this unique project to live audiences. Boom Beat Zoo offers a glimpse of the sound we are establishing. It covers a wide variety of genres, appealing to electronic aficionados as well as those who prefer acoustic music. Some of it is Cafe Del Mar-esque chillout, others more dancefloor friendly bangers and the epic Kicking Squirrels reminds me, as the producer, very much of the sound of legendary Rock n Roll band, the Doors. I’ve been hard at Ableton to give the project its necessary instrumental oomph and it’s been a steep learning curve… We have about 40-50 unfinished jams ready to progress and we are hoping that the public get behind the release and spend a few pennies on helping to finance the continuation of Megman vs Wez G. Reelhouse Records have taken the plunge and signed the debut EP and we look forward to striking up a successful business relationship with perhaps Wales’ finest independent dance music label. When you look through the Reelhouse back catalogue it is a bit daunting to see such luminary figures releasing tunes there, as Byron Stingly and Lenny Fontana, to name but a few… We hope that our sounds are fully appreciated by the Reelhouse market.   The second new track to be released on Reelhouse Records is a Wez G original: Shine Melody is a funky touch-edged disco…

Holiday Romance

We’ve all been there, cosied up with a nice partner on a holiday of a lifetime, be it a beach, a nice foreign city, or just camping in the forest, a holiday romance is always memorable. I was having a dig on Beatport for some of the finest of this summer’s chillout beats for this mix and as I spun the tunes, I felt they had a soft romantic love theme predominant… I managed to include one of the productions from my new Megman Vs Wez G project which I hope you enjoy. There’s some nice numbers here and the mix builds from around 90bpm up to some housier 120bpm at the finale. Hopefully the set will give you fond memories of your Holiday Romance. :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. Mojo Rising – On The Horizon (Original Mix) [Cold Busted] 2. Little Disco Biscuit

The best time for dance music in my opinion was the early 1990s. It was the heyday of the Rave Scene and dancefloors were packed with sky high dancing bods. The reason I like this period is not that the floors were filled with ecstasy takers, but that the music was at its peak. Dubby loops of bass and funk with a constant circular rhythm in the tents and clubs drove the E’d up crowd into a frenzy. The beats suited the experience of everyone – It was total unity and I think that over the years as the government has killed off the scene with various parliamentary acts (eg Criminal Justice Act 1994) and the total media frenzied attack on ecstasy, claiming it killed you, and the general shift towards commercialism and business, moved the music towards a different direction. Of course, post 1997 – even the dealers were selling ketamine and calling it ecstasy…It’s as if the disco biscuits disappeared overnight. I think on the music front the DJs forgot the buzz which caused the whole vibe and we saw a scattering of genres and pigeonholing and musical snobbery… Well – a couple of decades on from that and digging about on Beatport, I noticed a trend back towards the old style music. Loops of bass hooks and that driving groove have reappeared. It’s that old Italian sound which is so inspiring. Now most of it seems to be categorised as techno or deep house… but it seems the same old stuff that DJs from Laurent Garnier to Easygroove, from Carl Cox to Sasha, all used to bang out. In this mix I’ve cut up a few old tracks with the new flavours plus slipped in a special edit from a live Universe Rave that took place only a few miles away from me in Magor in South Wales in the summer of 1992… In the news recently there have been claims that Ecstasy cures cancer 100% guaranteed so maybe the pop idol generation will be ditching X-Factor, slipping on their shiny shirts and getting back to a diet of disco biscuits… Who knows? As long as good music thrives and Simon Cowell goes bankrupt I don’t mind one little bit. :::TRACKLISTING::: 1. Vangelis – Blush Response [East West] 2. Joe T Vannelli – Prelude (Scalambrin & Sicily Island Style Remix) [Le Bien Et Le Mal Recordings] 3….
