Last.fm I’m going to have a whinge here about the general lack of support the dance music industry seems to give this amazing site… Last.fm has been around for quite a few years… It is the most amazing site for people who listen to music and also for artists. We’ve witnessed the rise of Spotify, Soundcloud, Reverbnation, Podomatic, Mixcloud, Play.fm and many other music sites in recent years. Last.fm has been ticking along all the time while this has been going on.  It is the most amazing site for discovering new music. It has an excellent tagging system and when you download the scrobbler which supports a lot of players, you can keep a record of your own listening history.  It keeps stats and wiki info on artists that you simply won’t get anywhere else. It is fully interactive with a social network dimension where you meet genuine friends based on music tastes. There is a journal system and groups. It is an amazing site for artists which, even if you don’t scrobble particularly well – with decent journals and links you will ping around search engines across the world.  As a music listener and artist’s resource it is second to none. It is mainly free though you can subscribe to some additional features for a nominal monthly sum. It is also app friendly with its own radio app. The radio feature is the highlight and I’ll leave that to non-users as a surprise – but this is where you discover the site’s database’s true power and make new music discoveries. I fully endorse last.fm and I just cannot comprehend why more people don’t use it. (The above link is to my user account which you get yourself on signup )

Hexstatic – Master View – Album Review I don’t have huge knowledge of Ninja Tune music – in general it’s all very good, if it might somewhat appeal to the musically snobbish…. Hexstatic stand out above the crowd.., enough to spur me to write this article… I read from their last.fm page that they were ‘electro’ which put me off – but think not cheesy hands in your air stuff – more towards the better end of Daft Punk, with some nice mellow breaks added. It has elements of funk with some lovely samples… This album, Master View, flows nicely and is very listenable. I’d say the music would work on a dancefloor but to me it’s more geared to chilling in the home…By the time you reach ‘Perfect Bird’ on the album you might be expecting an album of trip-hop like breaks and electro… This track really stands out, however, and in my eyes is the best song on the album… At this point, I decided to take note of Hexstatic as artists…The vocals on Perfect Bird are sweet… Lovely chilled melodies and certainly, from a DJ’s point of view, a very playable track, especially with summer coming up. I’d give the album a solid 8.5/10 … It is a good piece of music and I endorse it. Go out and buy it! http://lastweek.fm/wezg/reviews/hexstatic-master-view http://www.last.fm/user/wezg/journal/2011/04/22/4cdvrt_hexstatic_-_master_view_-_album_review
