Always at the cutting cusp of web radio technology, KryKey has now released Lyvshow, a plugin to its web radio service that allows radio show hosters to publish their own material. It bypasses the standard KryKey studio and allows broadcasters to use their own software, be it Traktor, Virtual DJ or Itunes. It also incorporates Skype for ease of radio station callins. We’ll certainly be giving the new service a whirl over at http://shuffleradio.org
Teahupo’o (Tahiti)… pronounced ‘cho-pu’, .. I’ve been asked by my good friend, Johan Flapsandwich, to do a guest blog on his website http://flapsandwich.wordpress.com Flaps and I met 20 odd years ago and have grown up together as DJs and more recently, producers. We often get together for regular chitchats in Cardiff and have worked professionally together at various times in the music industry. In a recent drinking session, where I like to philosophize, Flappy heard me tell him a tale of New Zealand All Black rugby captain, Richie McCaw. McCaw is a flanker (wing-forward) and is widely regarded as one of the finest rugby players in the world today. He is an All Black legend and has amassed more international caps than any New Zealand player in history. The icing on the cake of his glistening career was lifting the Webb Ellis Rugby World Cup trophy on home soil in the 2011 World Cup. The All Blacks, if you are unfamiliar with the sport, are at the cutting edge of rugby – They are to the oval-shaped ball what Brasil are to its round cousin. They determine the whole pace of the international game and are always innovating new styles. In effect they set the pace. McCaw, as an individual is one of the most highly talented sportsmen in the world. Why, you ask, is this relevant to an anarchic Welsh Music producer, most widely known for releasing the terror that is ‘Sicknote’ http://sicknote.tv onto the world? I wanted to make a point to Flappy – that to reach the dizzying heights of ultimate success, there tends to be a formula. Those people who truly attain greatness in their chosen profession, have hidden secrets, that can be applied across the board. What is relevant to leading sportsmen, international political leaders, top businessmen, bestselling authors etc. can also apply to the world of music. Sure, we could find plenty of examples of success in the world of music itself… What makes Madonna tick? How do the Rolling Stones never cease to stop rolling? How does Brian Wilson imbibe from his muse? I wanted to keep it simple for Flappy and as I’d just read Richie McCaw’s cracking autobiography it was fresh in my mind. Flaps probably hasn’t exercised since he left his caribou herd behind in the deepest Scandinavian Arctic and headed over to Wales in the first place….
Been a while since the last DJ Wez G (WordPress) News post so I thought I’d better lend an update. Shuffle Artist Management are pleased to announce that Flapsandwich is joining. Johan Sebastian Flapsanwich and I go way back. Indeed it was me who found him while trekking in Sweden. He’d been herding his Caribou southwards. His migration took him to Southern Sweden where I happened to bump into him. We got on great and after a few polite brandies and cups of tea with an interpreter who I happened to find in an old second hand record shop whilst stocking up on the ABBA back catalogue. This gentleman allowed ‘Flappy‘ and I to strike up a deal and we Flaps decided to give up on his Caribou and come to Wales to make music. He’s been skyrocketing ever since and is a first rate producer, remixer and live performer and his deck wizardry ain’t too bad either…. More from Flapsandwich can be found at his website – http://www.flapsandwich.com http://shuffleartistmanagement.com

LISTEN TO KRUST – WARHEAD (WEZ G END OF TERROR REMIX) here http://soundcloud.com/wezg/krust-warhead-wez-g-end-of This is for the last ever remix competition at Back 2 You, the most excellent website whose remix projects I have worked on for the past six months or so… It gives producers who are learning a great opportunity to work with the material of well-established professional producers. Even if half the stuff I churn out is rubbish, these projects are great fun and very educational. The site is moving in a different direction from now on and it’s a real shame that this Krust – Warhead remix project is their final one. Krust – Well what can you say? Part of Bristol’s Reprazent Crew, Krust is a Drum & Bass superstar. The original Warhead, when it was first released in 1997, was a masterpiece of its genre. The bassline of the original is hard to match. The rawness, the wah wobble, the flow of the music – when you have worked on a remix, you really do start to appreciate these qualities in the original. My remix is packed full of different elements, including a cheeky Presidential sample… One of the samples in the remix pack had something that sounds to me like it’s saying ‘Mr President‘ so I was drawn to the idea of using the topical Obama sample. Also – it seems to conclude the business first launched by Wez G with his http://talibanhouse.com . I had fun working on this and hope that people will appreciate my efforts. FREE REMIX AVAILABLE HERE: http://soundcloud.com/wezg/d-ream-all-things-to-all-men D:Ream are one of my favourite alltime bands so I loved doing the remix… The Sasha Remix of D:Ream – U R The Best Thing is in my top ten tracks and I believe was a high point of Sasha’s early career so I understand how important doing a remix for D:Ream can be. There was a lot of material to work with here. This is an epic version but the original mix of this song is over 9 minutes in length. I was advised to trim my version down but couldn’t bring myself to make any cuts. In the days of non-smoking clubs – it’s an ideal track for a DJ to slam on if he wants a quick ciggie… Original Radio Edit video of All Things To All Men can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGQTd2DiHMs Remixed by Wez G @ Shuffle Studios, Caldicot https://djwezg.com This was originally for a competition and I have Al MacKenzie from D:Ream’s permission to redistribute it as a free release – If you’d prefer a copy in wav format http://soundcloud.com/wezg/promo-d-ream Your feedback would be much appreciated.
